Chapter 89: Keeping His Family Ignorant
The constant ringing of his secure line pierced the tranquil silence that had enveloped Eric White's private study. With a weary sigh, he reached for the receiver, his thumb depressing the answer button with a firm click.
"This is Eric," he said, his voice low and measured.
"Eric, it's Richard Madison," came the familiar voice on the other end of the line. "I've been seeing the news – it's absolute chaos out there. What the hell is going on?"
