"I can let you go," Lucas said with a faint smile, signaling to the two bodyguards. "Ms. Harper said she knows she was wrong. Let her go."
Hearing his words, Elena finally breathed a sigh of relief. She raised her hands toward the two bodyguards who were approaching. "Mr. Schneider said to let me go. Hurry up and untie me."
But the bodyguards simply smiled at her. "Ms. Harper, we're letting you go. Go on. Down you go."
And with that, they shoved her.
Elena felt herself being hurled off the rooftop.
The sudden sensation of weightlessness, combined with the cruel hope she had just been given, completely shattered her. As she plummeted, sheer terror overtook her, pushing out all fear of Lucas. Something far worse had consumed her.
