Levi pulled out a pair of jokers, and the two maids shook their heads.
Without missing a beat, he laid down the rest of his hand. "Straight flush, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. I win."
He extended his hand with a smirk. "Pay up."
The maids' eyes went wide in shock.
Maeve was amused.
Reluctantly, each maid fished out a hundred-dollar bill and dropped it into Levi's outstretched hand before running off with tears in their eyes.
Maeve was initially confused as to why they were crying over one loss.
But as she watched Levi open the drawer before him, he revealed a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills—more than the maids made in a month.
"Mr. Hackett, are you short on money?"
"Not at all," Levi replied casually. "But winning? That's always fun."
After a few days apart, Maeve noticed that Levi seemed more cunning than ever.
She sat across from him and cut straight to the chase. "Why are you pretending to be sick?"
