Chapter 679
"Why'd you do this to yourself?" Zion asked as he got up to grab a warm towel from the kitchen.
Maeve shot him a sharp look as her irritation bubbled over. "Why do you think? Someone had a gun to my head, and I wasn't just going to sit there and take it!"
Zion returned and knelt beside her. He pressed the warm towel gently against the bruise on her thigh.
"My gun will never be aimed at you, Maeve," he murmured. Zion's voice was hoarse and tinged with exhaustion.
Maeve cupped his face and finally noticed the dark circles under his eyes. No matter how much he tried to hide it, his fatigue was clear. He must've gone through hell searching for her without a moment's rest.
The sight of his worn-out face tugged at her heart, and she leaned in for a kiss. What started as a quick, tender peck deepened as Zion pulled her closer.
His arms tightened around her like he was afraid she'd slip away.
"Mavy... Mavy..." Zion's voice was strained and filled with a longing he could no longer hold
