His touch was so delicate that it almost made Maeve laugh. "You know, the way you're doing this is making it hurt even more," she teased.
Her words made Zion freeze.
Seeing his hesitation, Maeve said, "It's fine. I'll handle it myself."
She reached for the gauze, but Zion's hand quickly caught hers.
"You don't have much time left to recover," he said softly.
Maeve understood what he meant without needing further explanation. "I know," she replied.
Zion lifted his gaze to look at Maeve. "I suppose they're going to make a move soon. There's no way they'll just sit back and let us recover."
"I know."
"That's why… We need a plan to change how things are right now."
Maeve's voice dropped to barely a whisper. "I know."
For the past few nights, she hadn't been able to shake the feeling that her time left with Zion was slipping away.
