Each strike from Maeve felt like it drained the last of her strength.
With a heavy thud, the attic door shattered open.
The dust settled slowly before Maeve's eyes, revealing the scene inside.
It was a cozy, soft pink princess room. A small bed sat in the room, with a large brown teddy bear resting on it. On the nearby table, two fairy tale books were neatly arranged.
The floor was covered in a plush pink carpet, and a charming wooden rocking horse stood nearby. Scattered across the floor were half-assembled building blocks.
Castles, dolls, delicate little dinnerware—each item seemed to crash against Maeve's senses, overwhelming her as if something was on the verge of coming back to her.
Her surroundings spun, and though her head throbbed, Maeve pushed forward a step.
Just then, her gaze landed on a pile of newspapers in the corner. Yellowed with age, they had gathered in the corner of the attic.
