Maeve looked at Levi's serious expression and, inexplicably, found herself starting to trust him.
"Mr. Hackett, you're always so good at bending the truth… I'm not sure if I can believe you this time," she said.
"Whether you believe or not is up to you. But whether I speak or not is my choice." A faint smile crossed Levi's face. "So, Ms. Scott, do you trust me, or you don't?"
Anyone else might have felt a twinge of doubt about Levi by now.
He was the one person here who seemed capable of shifting the course of things, and the only one here that no one could truly read.
And yet, against all logic, Maeve felt an unexpected sense of familiarity with him.
She often said she didn't trust him, and deep down, she sensed Levi had his own agenda.
Still, every time, she chose to work with him. And every time, she was the one who benefited the most.
"I trust you," Maeve said at last. "No matter what anyone else thinks, I believe what you say, Mr. Hackett."
