"Half true, half false," Zion remarked.
"Which part is true, and which part is false?" Maeve said.
"I can't say for sure about everything else, but his feelings for you were definitely false," Zion spoke with unwavering conviction, causing Maeve to raise an eyebrow.
"Is my charm really that insignificant? How can you be so certain Paul isn't watching me out of genuine interest?"
"You can't hide the look in someone's eyes when they're smitten. I know." Zion met Maeve's gaze as he recalled how he had once hesitated to admit his own feelings.
When Paul confessed earlier, his tone was too casual and his eyes were devoid of any warmth. It was easy for Zion to conclude it was merely an excuse.
Zion's gaze intensified, and Maeve felt a rush of warmth color her cheeks. "Okay, okay, you're right. No one knows the look of love better than you."
Back when she hadn't acknowledged Zion's feelings, he often watched her with an intensity she had misinterpreted, thinking he was scheming again
