Just as Charlie and Lyra were about to start arguing, Maeve chimed in, "Exactly. There wasn't enough time."
"Besides, the second Mr. Foster got back, he passed out drunk. There's no way he could've talked to you about the wedding."
At that, Lyra realized she'd revealed too much. Her eyes went wide, and before anyone could react, she spun around and hurried off, flustered.
"Lyra! Wait!" Charlie shouted and chased after her.
Maeve watched their figures and shook her head. They had already done the deed twice, but they were still sneaking around like teenagers.
"It's still early, and you're already up to catch them in the act?" Zion asked as he wrapped his arms around Maeve from behind.
"I wanted to sleep in, but with all that noise next door, there was no chance," Maeve said.
Before now, she hadn't realized just how wild Charlie could be. He and Zion really were two peas in a pod.
"We might need to live a little further from them then," Zion teased with a soft chuckle.
