Chapter 6
Julian hadn't planned to go to Bal Harbour Shops that afternoon. But his bruised face needed concealer, and the drugstore makeup wasn't cutting it.
"Can I help you find something?" The Sephora employee eyed his split lip.
"Concealer." He touched his face self-consciously. "For this."
"Rough night?"
"Rough life."
That's when he saw her.
Chloe stepped out of Gucci, carrying multiple shopping bags. She looked different. Expensive. Her usual sundresses replaced by a designer outfit that probably cost more than his monthly rent.
"Sir?" The employee waved her hand. "The concealer?"
"Sorry, I—I have to go."
He moved through the mall, keeping his distance. Chloe walked with a confidence he'd never seen before. Head high. Shoulders back. The click of her Louboutins echoing off marble floors.
"Miss Martinez!" A security guard called out. "Your car is ready."
"Thank you, George." Her voice carried across the atrium.
Julian froze. Her voice. He hadn't heard it in three months.
