To Go Shopping with Mr.Carroll

"It is a rule here that the bride pays a visit to her family two days after the wedding." Opal ignored my refusal and then left.  When I tried to catch up with Opal, my old phone rang. I didn't know this number.  "Hello." I answered the call.  "Lass, oh no, Kelly, I'm your aunt." The voice from the other end of the line was familiar to me.   "Oh." I had blacklisted all the phone numbers of my family. I didn't foresee that these people would use a new phone number to call me. "I heard that you had married into big family. I need your help..." "Good-for-nothing, why are you so polite to her?" My grandma snatched the phone from my aunt and then scolded, "You bit*h, are you happy now? "We have provided for you for 19 years, so you are one of us. Your little brother wants to work as an Uber driver in the town, so give us 150 thousand dollars to buy him a car. "Don't think about getting rid of us. If you can't give us the money in two days, I will go to your place and make a scene there." On the other end of the line, my grandma in the country was still as unreasonable as ever. "Then come." I hung up the phone and blacklisted this number.  My movements were determined and neat.  The Smith family had paid my family in the countryside several hundred thousand dollars to cut off their tie with me.  Therefore, I wouldn't work for their cash cow.  Moreover, I was poor.  I clenched the kraft bag in my hand. Thirty thousand dollars in the bag was all I had to explore this world, so I wouldn't give it to those people. "Madam, are you alright?" Jason must have clearly heard my conversation over the broken phone.  "I am fine. Old story." I dropped out of school after Grade 9 because those people thought that it was a waste of money for me to continue my study. They made me work. How could I find a good job with such a bad education background? Therefore, my pay was only a few hundred dollars per month. To make things worse, my pay was all taken away by my so-called family, who was greedy. What a blessing for me to get rid of these bloodsuckers! Jason answered the phone, which rang right then.  Soon, Jason came back with a symbolic smile on his face. "Mr. Carroll would like to take you to buy some new clothes in the mall." "Really? Don't I have to stay here?" I couldn't hide my excitement. Jason made a gesture and said, "This way, please." I was led to a completely new road. This place looked like a castle from the outside and was a maze. That was why Old Madame Brown failed to find Carroll alive here.  More than a dozen limos lined up in the underground parking lot.  All of these limos were black. Jason led me to a car with the plate number CB 1357 and opened the door of the backseats. Carroll was sitting in the back seat with his computer. I got into the car and greeted him. "Good afternoon, Mr. Carroll." "Hum." Carroll coldly responded to me without raising his head. He focused on the data on his computer screen. I was glad that I didn't have to socialize with Carroll. I turned my head away and enjoyed the unique scenery of the city. There were a lot of tall buildings, and the trees along the road were in order.  Never had I seen such scenery in the countryside. I came to understand those people who studied hard to flee from the countryside. Nobody could resist the temptation of big cities. I was fascinated by the scenery. I didn't know when Carroll put away his computer and got close to me. "Like it?" "Yes." I nodded. "It's very beautiful. My wish was to live in a big city, and it came true now." Carroll immediately asked, "What's your wish now?" I pondered for a while. Then, I looked Carroll in the eyes and said seriously, "Mr. Carroll, my wish now is to end the funeral." Hearing this, Carroll turned cold. "The second time." "What?" Before I figured out what that sentence meant, Carroll explained, "You asked me to end the funeral for the second time. Are you unwilling to mourn for me?" "Yes." Then, I added, "Everyone here doesn't like me. Your family, the Smith family, and those mourners don't take me seriously." That was how people reacted. By instinct, one wanted to flee from the place where he was unwelcome.  I was no exception. Carroll was the only soul who was good to me, so I was willing to tell him how I felt.  Carroll said slowly as the coldness in his eyes gradually disappeared, "You are beautiful, so they are jealous of you." Right then, the car stopped. Carroll pulled my hand and said, "Here we are. Let's go." The warmth was transmitted from his palm to mine, so my heart pounded wildly. He... Did he praise me just now? "Wow." I exclaimed with surprise.  The mall was a brand-new world to me. There were bridges, waters, and rockeries. Those shops blended with the environment perfectly.  However, there were no customers, apart from Carroll and me.  Jason came over with a phone in his hands. "Mr. Carroll, it's a call from the prime minister of Parkley. It's about oil..." Leaving his speech unfinished, he shot one glance at me. Sensible, I took two steps back. "I can stroll around by myself." "Madam, Mr. Carroll has reserved the entire mall for you. Choose whatever you want." Speaking, Jason handed me a black bank card with gilding.  On the surface of the card, the golden word Brown was eye-catching.  Reserved the whole mall? The wealth and generosity of Carroll astounded me. People got off work now, so it was the golden hour for the mall to make profits.  Did Carroll really reserve the whole mall? Carroll walked away with the phone. Then, I said goodbye to Jason, took the bank card, and went shopping alone. "G.U?" The words on the signboard attracted me.  At the door, I heard two salesgirls gossiping with each other. "Who did Mr. Carroll reserve the whole mall for again?" "I don't know. Some superstar perhaps." Again. I soon caught the key point of their conversation. It turned out that Carroll didn't book the whole mall for the first time.  My heart sank, and I wanted to leave. One salesgirl spotted me, looked at me with contempt, and said, "How did you get in here? This is a luxury store, not a scenic area for you to take a photo to show off! "Look at you! How dare you wander around here! Aren't you afraid that you will go bankrupt for compensation?" The salesgirl on her 10-centimeter-high heels pushed me mercilessly. I staggered for this push and soon regained my balance. With my eyes wide open, I asked, "Is this how you serve your clients?" "You? Client? You don't know your place at all! This is a luxury store. A pauper like you can't afford the stuff here for the rest of your life!"
