Ignoring Bastian, Agnes turned and walked away.
She worked at a small private shoe factory in a nearby village, with a fairly flexible schedule. The pay was based on her output, and if she was quick, she could earn up to 500 dollars a month.
But with the added responsibility of caring for Hannah and tending to the fields, she couldn't make that much.
At best, she brought home only around 300 dollars each month, and she stashed every bit of it away for her youngest son's education.
