Far From Optimistic
Lucille's hand unintentionally tightened around the blanket when she heard that.
Indeed.
Frank was injured. He had taken a bullet for her, and word had it that he had ended up in the hospital, staying in the intensive care unit for several days. All his old and new illnesses flared up, and the situation was far from optimistic.
Now, he stood at the doorstep, letting the rain drench him while his injuries were yet to heal. It would be strange if he didn't fall sick!
Lucille rubbed her temple, ultimately compromising. "Find an umbrella for me."
"Okay." Jolene was clearly prepared all along, quickly handing an umbrella to Lucille from behind.
Lucille received the umbrella, her face showing an ambiguous smile.
Jolene fidgeted, and offered a dry explanation, "Boss, I was just being helpful, really!"
Lucille didn't say anything; wearing a coat, she walked down the stairs.
