Chapter 3: He Cheated on Her Long Ago?
Olivia sneered, "Do I look like that kind of woman in your eyes?"
"Aren't you?" Chace asked suspiciously, looking at her.
Olivia darkened his eyes. It seemed that her explanation just now was in vain.
It made sense.
Things had already come to this point, and no one would think of her in a favorable light.
No matter how she tried to prove her innocence, it was useless.
Moreover, businessmen like Chace would be more inclined to think this way.
"Mr. Baker, whatever you say. After all, you're the biggest financial supporter of the Hampton Group," Olivia sarcastically said. "Mr. Baker, is there anything else?"
Chace looked down at her professional dress, his sexy Adam's apple bobbed in his throat. "From now on, you're not allowed to wear black stockings!"
Olivia was taken aback.
Chace took out an invitation card from his pocket. "If you don't come, you're done for."
Before Olivia could react, he had already left.
She picked up the invitation card on the conference table, realizing that it was an engagement invitation from Melvin Conley, the youngest son of the Conley family.
Three years ago, Melvin was supposed to be Olivia's fiancé.
But unexpectedly, he ended up having an affair with her best friend.
On the night before the wedding, she caught them cheating in bed.
The wedding was called off.
However, Olivia's mother left a will stating that Olivia must obtain a marriage certificate on her twenty-second birthday to inherit thirty percent of the shares of the Hampton Group.
That day, she squatted outside City Hall until it was almost closed before randomly grabbing a man to go in and register the marriage.
However, little did she know that the man had disappeared after obtaining the marriage certificate and his whereabouts remained unknown.
And now, Melvin was unexpectedly getting engaged again.
But his fiancée turned out not to be her best friend, which was quite ironic.
So, what did Chace mean by giving her this invitation?
...
In the evening.
Olivia arrived at the Conley residence.
Her father had just been laid to rest, and she really shouldn't have attended such an event.
However, Chace threatened her. She had no choice but to come.
As soon as she appeared, she attracted the attention and whispers of the crowd.
"She's the eldest daughter of the Hampton family, isn't she? How could she be here? Didn't her father just get buried today? This is just too improper."
"Her company is about to go under. Why bother? I reckon she's here today to find a sugar daddy and try to hook up with someone rich."
"A fallen wealthy daughter. Isn't she just a high-class prostitute?"
"Don't you know that the Baker Group invested in the Hampton Group? Maybe the Hampton Group will make a comeback because of this."
"That's easy for you to say. If she can really revive the company, I'll let you kick my head like a soccer ball!"
Upon hearing this, Olivia raised an eyebrow and said, "Thank you all for your concern for the Hampton Group."
Those few people whispering were startled.
She sneered, "Sir, when the Hampton Group makes a comeback, I'll rent the biggest sports arena in Byhurst and hold a headball match. Don't forget what you just said."
"You!" The middle-aged man glared at her.
"And if a fallen wealthy daughter is considered a prostitute, what does that make a fallen Mr. Baker?" Olivia mocked. "I'm afraid he would be despised if he wanted to be a gigolo, right?"
Those few people saw how sharp-tongued Olivia was. They didn't dare to provoke her and dispersed.
Olivia snorted coldly.
She clenched her fist and looked around for Chace.
But it seemed like he hadn't come.
"Olivia?" Julia's voice sounded surprised.
Olivia turned around, also somewhat surprised. "My father just got buried and you're already out having fun. If he knew it, he might come haunting you at night!"
Julia's expression changed. "Don't talk nonsense. I'm attending my daughter's engagement ceremony. What's the problem?"
Her daughter's engagement ceremony?
Something was off.
"Hillary and Melvin are getting engaged?" Olivia asked coldly.
"That's right!" Julia proudly said. "Hillary will soon become the hostess of the Conley family. She is nothing like you, a poor low-class woman!"
Olivia clenched her fist. "When my father was still lying in the hospital bed, you two were secretly scheming, weren't you?"
No wonder Julia had been rarely seen.
Even when her father passed away, Julia was not present.
And Olivia didn't even have the slightest clue about anything.
They really kept everything a secret.
"Olivia?" a voice filled with surprise came.
Olivia knew without turning around who it was.
It was her former fiancé, Melvin.
Olivia turned around.
She saw Hillary Hampton holding Melvin's arm, looking proud as she glanced at Olivia. "Olivia, why are you here? Your father just passed away. Shouldn't you be mourning?"
"My father?" Olivia retorted coldly. "Isn't he also your father?"
"We have no blood relation, so what does it matter?" Hillary rolled her eyes. "Besides, I'm not his biological daughter. He didn't leave a penny for me when he died, so why should I mourn for him?"
"Hillary, you're so despicable. When you came to my family with Julia, my father treated you like his own daughter. He cared more about you than he did about me. And now that he's dead, this is how you repay him! You heartless woman!" Olivia exclaimed angrily.
Hillary had indeed taken away most of her father's love back then.
Olivia had also resented it.
But she could do nothing about it.
Because her mother had urged her before she died, telling her not to sever ties with her biological father, and to do whatever it took to inherit the company and keep it secure.
Olivia had endured for so many years, serving by the sickbed and suppressing her hatred and anger, all for her mother's dying wish.
She didn't know how her father would feel if he knew it.
Perhaps he would blow his top.
"Hillary, you can't say that," Melvin said calmly. "Didn't Mr. Hampton give you 500 million dollars as a dowry?"
Hillary was stunned. How did he bring this up?
Olivia squinted. "500-million-dollar dowry?"
This couldn't be true!
If they had that 500 million dollars, her father wouldn't have been resentful before he died.
After all, her father's health deteriorated because he couldn't raise enough money and had to be hospitalized.
Where did Julia and Hillary get the 500 million dollars?
Could it be that they embezzled money from the company?
"Olivia, that was left for Hillary by your father and has nothing to do with you!" Julia accused. "You are not welcome here. Get lost!"
"I won't leave," Olivia said coldly.
"Olivia, I'm driving you away as the future hostess of the Conley family!" Hillary's aura was overwhelming. "If you don't leave, I will have someone throw you out!"
"Dare you!" Olivia's eyes turned icy cold.
Melvin frowned. "She is our guest. Hillary, you shouldn't act like this."
"Melvin, you don't know what kind of life I've had in the Hampton family all these years. You don't know how Olivia bullied me. Have you forgotten?" Hillary wiped her tears. "Back then, if it wasn't for her and her best friend interfering, we would have been together long ago."
What?
Olivia's eyes darkened. "Melvin, you cheated on me long ago?"
