Chapter 1: Liar
"Mo--"
Without warning, a slap in the face was thrown on Natasha Quinn's cheek. Her little white face quickly floated a bright red handprint.
"Your brother is still so young! How could you lie to me? You must have accidentally broken the bracelet and framed it to your brother!" Macey, Quin's mother's sharp voice, came into the room, disgusted and furiously looked at Natasha.
There was a jade bracelet on the ground that had fallen into several pieces, while the "culprit" was hiding behind Macey, crowing and making a face.
"Mom, look at him!" Natasha's face was burning with pain, and she could not bear his younger brother's attitude.
"Mom! Sister yelled at me again." The boy cried. When Macey looked down at him, he immediately put away his grinning face and even raised his sleeve and wipe a nonexistent tear.
He was such a pretender!
"You!" Natasha tried to grab his brother, but her hand was blocked by her Mother.
"How dare you beat your brother in front of me?" Macey angrily said. She looked around and picked up a bamboo pole standing on the wall. Then she immediately swung it to Natasha.
"You need to take care of your brother. What is wrong with you? You are lying to me over and over again. What is the point of raising you if you are always disobeying me?"
-Snap- The bamboo pole was abruptly hit on Natasha's thin backbone.
Natasha felt the burning pain in her back, tears immediately escaped from her eyes.
"Since you think it is useless to raise me, then give me college tuition, and I will leave this house! You will not have to take care of me in the future, and I will not ask you for a penny again!"
Family members prefer a son than a daughter. So, no matter who made mistakes, as long as his younger brother pretends to cry, Natasha should be the one they will punish.
Just two days ago, she heard from her grandmother that her parents wanted to marry her to the silly son of their boss and then send her younger brother to international school abroad with the price money they will earn from her.
The boss's son was stupid since he was a child. The problem is that Natasha was only eighteen years old.
Hearing Natasha dared to ask for money from her mother. Macey chucked and twisted Natasha's ears.
"You are a girl. What is the use of going to college? The tuition fee is still thousands of dollars. The money for your brother's English training class was not even been enough. Where did you get the guts to ask for money from me?"
"You do not have to worry about tuition fees, and I will never get married!"
After Natasha yelled at her mother, she left home with tears in her eyes and never looked back.
In the hot summer, the black asphalt road exudes a strong smell of ink, and Natasha ran, profusely sweating, and stopped in front of an old-fashioned attic on the second floor.
The old-style white fence was covered with emerald vines, and even the walls outside the attic are mottled and peeled off.
That is the home of her best friend, Maxine Lee. Usually, when Natasha borrowed money from Maxine, Maxine was not saying anything and immediately lent her money.
"Natasha got 70 points more than you. How did this happen? Have you not learned anything for the past 3years?"
When Natasha was about to open the door, she heard a conversation behind the door left unlocked.
"Natasha is a good-looking girl. Who knows, she has a good grade because teachers were giving the extra things that she can do in private and messing around with the teachers and students in school."
That was Maxine Lee's disdainful voice.
"What are you talking about, Maxine?" The door was opened, and Natasha Quinn stood in the door frame with a pale face.
The scorching sun projected her thin outline on the ground. She looked pale and looked at her friend. She could hardly believe that what she heard came from her best friend's mouth.
"Natasha." She suddenly appeared at the door, and Maxine's eyes were full of shock. "I..."
"Maxine, we can explain it to her since she already heard us." Maxine's mother, Courtney, came forward and looked at Natasha.
"Natasha, our family took care of you before, but you are ungrateful girl and does not know how to repay."
Looking at the attitude of Maxine and Aunt Courtney towards her turned the world upside down. Natasha's mind went blank.
"Auntie, what are you talking about?"
"The whole middle school knows that you are the top student. You and Maxine are playful on weekdays, and her grades are behind. I asked you to help Maxine more on weekdays, we are kind to you, but I did not know that you are selfish and arrogant and did not do anything. Then you will say that you two are best friends?"
"Mom, Natasha was nice to me, do not say that." Maxine's eyes were filled with guilt, then she came forward and took Natasha's hand.
But Natasha shook her hand. "I'm nice? That's not what you said when I was outside the door," her tone has no waves, but her eyes are full of disappointment. "Maxine, I have always treated you as my best friend. I really did not know that you were such a lousy person." Natasha said, emotionless. She did not know this side of Maxine. It was like she never met her before.
Just then, a clear male voice suddenly came behind them.
"What are you doing?" A tall man suddenly appeared at the door, wearing a clean white shirt and curry-colored casual pants, with a handsome face.
"Ah-" Maxine suddenly screamed and sat down on the ground. "What are you, what are you pushing me for?!"
When Natasha looked down, it was Maxine with her fake tears. She did not react for a moment.
"I know that you have some misunderstanding, but you do not need to push my daughter like that! We are so nice to you. Then this is what you will repay us?"
Maxine pretended to fall down when she saw Jake Hendrix at the door, then immediately followed by her mother's words. The performance of Maxine and Courtney was very realistic.
From the perspective of Jake Hendrix at the door, it is indeed Natasha who pushed down Maxine.
