ETHAN I frown as I peer out my window. May stands by the hood of her car, talking to a man who looks very much like William Bryson, Asley’s brother. He’s smiling, leaning in closer to her as she talks and though it irks me, I know my wife. I know what her eyes look like when she’s bored, and she has that forced smile plastered to her face right now. I would know. She looked like that the entire time during the dinner with my family. Looking away, I let Stan drive past them. I won’t have her thinking I’m being a monitoring spirit. Threatening her boss with shutting down his restaurant for daring to fire my wife was more than enough. Walking up to her and making it known that I’m her husband would put her in an uncomfortable place. A press release on my wedding would be the end of our privacy. Or hers. There would always be cameras and people watching, waiting for her to make the tiniest mistake before they turned her into a joke on the tabloids. I can already tell that she hates the
