"Get lost! You're the irreverent one!" Olivia shot Lily a glare.
"Oh, don't worry about it," Melanie said, patting Lily on the head. "It's rare for my daughter-in-law to have such a good friend. I'm thrilled. Why would I care?"
"Melanie, you really know how to sweet-talk," Olivia said, linking arms with her as they walked inside. "Let's go in and leave the ungrateful Lil behind for a bit."
"No way!" Melanie firmly refused. "You can leave anyone behind, but not my daughter-in-law."
"Alright, fine!" Olivia threw her hands up. "That's the third major failure of my life."
Melanie chuckled but said nothing, pulling Lily along with her.

"I couldn't reach him," Melanie waved it off casually. "Don't worry about him. Unless he's dead, we'll hear about it."
