Chapter 3

Zora turned to meet the man's gaze, but the moment she saw him, she froze. He had chiseled features on a canvas of smooth, tanned skin. His hazel eyes were exceptionally penetrating, and his thin lips were pursed in a disapproving frown. He was identical to Casper and Bobby, down to the exact shade of their eyes! Zora did not even know until the day of her delivery that she had given birth to a set of triplets. Unfortunately, neither Bobby nor Casper took after her. Nina, on the other hand, resembled her a little but shared the same inky black hair as the man standing before Zora. Zora faltered when she realized this. Who was this man? How was he related to Winona? Jay's gaze landed on Zora's face, and he could not help frowning. This woman… Winona gritted her teeth when she noticed Jay scrutinizing Zora. Damn it. Could Jay have recognized Zora? No! She would not let that happen! She snaked her arm around Jay's and added with a pitiful look, "I'm sorry, Jay. I had acted too rashly just now, but I was just acting out of concern. Vienna Jewels is my father's pride and joy, and I just wanted to defend the company." Jay ignored what she said and instead strode toward Zora. "Who gave you the right to say Vienna Jewels is on the brink of bankruptcy?" Zora sneered when she heard this. Vienna Jewels was their father's pride and joy? All he did was take credit for something he had not even done. What a liar Winona was! She lifted her head to meet Jay's gaze head-on. "So what if I did?" Everyone gasped when they heard that. How dare this woman talk back to Jay Sullivan like that? Did she have a death wish? Zora crossed her arms in front of her chest and smiled when she saw the scowl on Jay's face. "What's wrong? Are you going to defend your poor little damsel?" What a perfect match! Seeing that this man had chosen Winona to be his partner, Zora knew at first glance that he was a rotten fruit. "Do you even have any idea what you're talking about?" Jay asked coldly. Zora raised her brows. "Of course I do. Vienna Jewels hired me, yet is refusing to even let me into the building. I don't think I'd like to work in a place with such a bad office culture." Hired her? Winona froze when she heard this. "What… What did you just say? Since when did Vienna Jewels hire you?" The audacity! "You must be confused, Ms. Jacobs. Don't you remember headhunting me from Lux Jewels a month ago by offering me a hundred and forty million dollars? Seeing that you didn't even put in the effort to remember me, I think the deal is off." Was this none other than Zora, the world-famous and most sought-after jewelry designer in the world? The color had drained from Winona's face. "No way. You can't possibly be Zora…" Jay turned to glance at her. Winona looked as though she had seen a ghost. She swallowed the rest of her sentence. Zora, on the other hand, stared straight at Jay. "Sir, you must be the one who provided her the funding to hire me, am I right?" She knew Stephen could never afford to pay 140 million dollars for a jewelry designer, and neither could Winona, so there was only one explanation. This man, whoever he was, had helped out behind the scenes. Winona had struck the jackpot! Jay stared intently at the woman before him. He could not help finding her strangely familiar, as though he had met her before… Winona quickly approached him, trying to intercept him before he could recognize Zora. "She must be bluffing, Jay. She can't possibly be the same Zora as the famous jewelry designer!" How could that be? She and Zora had known each other for years, and she never knew Zora had an eye for jewelry design! After all, no one had ever seen Zora, the jewelry designer, in the flesh. There was no guarantee that people would not impersonate her. "You claim to be Zora, the jewelry designer, so prove it. From what I understand, Ms. Zora had earned a badge from the royal family of Scoythe for her work on the queen's tiara, so that will prove you're telling the truth!" A glimmer of triumph flashed through Winona's eyes as she said this. Zora was dead. If she could not provide any evidence to back up her claims, Jay would skin her alive. There was no way Zora could get out of this alive now!
