Wolfe’s POV.
“Dad.”
The word slipped out before I could stop it, my voice flat, almost mechanical. I couldn’t muster up anything more than that—no warmth, no excitement. Just… Dad.
He cleared his throat, tugging awkwardly at his collar. “The suit suits you really well, Wolfe.”
I raised an eyebrow, a half-smirk tugging at my lips. Really? That’s what he led with? Compliments about my suit? He’d have to do better than that.
I hadn’t wanted to invite him. Hell, I’d tried to talk myself out of it a hundred times. But the last thing I needed was the press turning our wedding day into a circus with headlines screaming about the groom’s estranged father. So, I sent the invitation. Whether or not he showed up was his problem, not mine.
Now that he was here, standing in front of me, I wasn’t sure if inviting him had been a good idea or the stupidest thing I’d done in years. It’s probably the latter, I thought as I felt the good mood I’d built up all day start to slip away. Yep, definitely
