Makenna's POV.
I felt Wolfe's body go rigid next to me as the voice called his name. My gaze followed his, landing on a man who was unmistakably Wolfe’s older, more imposing version. His father, no doubt. Beside him stood a woman whose warm smile seemed to overshadow Wolfe's cold indifference. She had the same striking blue eyes as Wolfe.
“Father,” Wolfe greeted his father with a clipped tone.
The man’s gaze swept across the room with an air of detached appraisal. “I heard about your event. Thought I’d come see it for myself,” he replied. His voice was as steady and unyielding as his presence. “Quite the turnout.”
“Yes, it is,” Wolfe replied, as though holding back a wry comment.
“Wolfe dear, it’s been a while,” she said, her voice sweet as honey, as she linked her arm with his father’s.
“Mother,” Wolfe replied, his tone clipped, almost mechanical. “What are you doing here?”
