Wolfe's POV.
Mackenzie stormed out, her heels clicking angrily against the polished floor. She had no idea I was standing just around the corner.
How the hell didn't I notice that she wasn't Makenna?
Watching her leave without knowing I was there made me feel a small, petty sense of satisfaction. Good riddance.
But as soon as she was gone, my annoyance shifted inward. How could I have not recognized my own girlfriend? I rubbed my temples, trying to ward off the headache that was forming. I was contemplating calling Will to find another replacement when the door to my room opened, interrupting my thoughts.
Makenna emerged, her face still flushed with anger, her eyes flashing with unresolved fury. The sight of her, so beautiful even when she was mad, made my chest tighten. But I knew better than to say that out loud right now.
“Wolfe,” she started, her tone sharp, “how is it possible that you couldn't tell it was Kenzie?”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “Makenna, I—”
