Chapter 31  A Silent Reckoning

As Sweetie voiced her concern, imploring Lucas to have accompanied Eleanor or at least attempted to clarify things, Lucas let out a heavy sigh. "No, I'm waiting for the doctor. His assistant mentioned he was on his way. Besides, I believe she needs some time to process everything." Later, when Lucas returned home, assuming Eleanor was at work as it was her usual departure time, he headed to his room to freshen up. However, before he could even turn on the shower, his phone began to ring. Seeing his mom's name flashing on the screen, he swiftly picked it up. "Mom, what's wrong?" Lucas immediately sensed the unease in Judy's voice. "I'm at the hospital; your dad had an accident on his way home from the airport," Judy's voice quivered with concern and urgency. Without a moment's hesitation, Lucas assured, "I'm coming." With the urgency of the situation pressing upon him, Lucas hurried to his place and tried to figure out how to inform Eleanor.
