Chapter 13 Beneath The Surface
Eleanor's heart sank as she watched Lucas enter the house with a smile on his face, only to see it fade as his eyes landed on the flowers she had lovingly arranged in the crystal vase. She noticed his reaction immediately, and it was clear to her that he didn't seem to like changes at his place, though he didn't say a word.
Despite the initial disappointment and awkwardness in the air, Eleanor remained composed. She managed to maintain a warm smile and tried to divert his attention away from the flowers. "Lucas," she said cheerfully, "you must be tired from your day. Why don't you freshen up? Dinner is all ready."
Lucas nodded silently, his expression still a bit distant, and headed towards his room to change. As soon as he was out of sight, Eleanor swiftly moved into action. She carefully picked up the vase with the flowers and discreetly placed it in the corner of the kitchen where it wouldn't be immediately visible.
As Lucas emerged from his room, Eleanor couldn't help but notice
