Chapter 11 Fleeting Embrace

When Lucas put his gentle hand on Eleanor's, she felt safe and warm. His touch, which was both soft and strong, showed support and encouragement. The moment their skin touched, though, an electric current seemed to flow between them, setting off a spark that neither of them could deny. At that very moment, time seemed to stop, and Eleanor and Lucas were drawn to each other in a way neither of them had expected. Their hearts beat at the same time, reflecting the beat of a wish they couldn't say out loud. Yet, Eleanor felt a wave of fear wash over her as quickly as the spark had begun. She had worked so hard to stay calm and independent that she couldn't let her strong feelings take over. With a sudden burst of determination, Eleanor quickly and firmly took her hand away from Lucas's. It was too dangerous for her to let herself get lost in her thoughts because the results could be so bad. At the thought of Eleanor's quick withdrawal, Lucas felt a wave of sadness wash over him.
