Chapter 103 A Ray of Hope
The hours after Maya's surgery felt like days. I sat in the waiting room, the sterile smell of the hospital surrounding me, every minute dragging by as I waited for news. Amy had gone to the cafeteria to get us something to eat, but I couldn’t even think about food. All I could do was sit there, my mind spinning with worry and fear, praying that Maya would pull through.
I was lost in thought when a nurse finally appeared, her face calm but serious. She approached me with a kind smile, though her expression remained professional.
"Are you Jessica?" she asked, her voice gentle.
"Yes, that's me," I replied, my heart pounding in my chest. "Is Maya okay? How did the surgery go?"
The nurse nodded, a hint of relief in her eyes. "The surgery was successful. The doctors managed to repair the damage, and she’s stable now. It was touch and go for a while, but she made it through. She’s a fighter, your friend."
A wave of relief washed over me, and I felt my legs almost give out from under me
