Chapter 21: Maintaining Proper Distance
Amia was worried about propriety and the implications of being seen so close to Steve, fearing how it might look to others. Steve gave her a sideways glance. "I know what you're worried about, but if it were as you think, does that mean female doctors shouldn't treat male patients?"
Amia shook her head. "That's not the same. Doctors and patients are different."
Steve ignored her protests and continued carrying her forward. He was focused on getting Amia treated as soon as possible to avoid any complications. After a while, Steve stopped and looked at Amia.
"Can you walk on your own?"
"Of course, it's just my arm that's hurt," Amia replied.
Steve then gently set her down. He initially wanted to support her as they walked, but when he approached, Amia instinctively took two steps back. This made Steve frown, his expression turning slightly sour. "What’s the meaning of this? Why are you avoiding me? I’m not going to bite you."
