Chapter 07

When it was time for dinner, a servant took Marian to the dining room. Ruby was too angry at Marian to eat, she told her mother she would be skipping dinner that night. The Su family was waiting at the table, they were all waiting for Marian. As soon as she appeared, Charlie ridiculed her abruptly, "There are rules in this household, Marian, you don't need three reminders and four invitations for dinner. Honestly, do you even consider yourself a part of the Su family?" Marian's face was dull and indifferent in the face of Charlie's mockery. She turned to look at him, there was a terrifying chill in her seemingly calm eyes. Charlie didn't expect to see something so terrifying on such a peaceful night. He choked on a piece of meat that was lodged in his throat and he coughed lightly. Charlie stared at Marian, who sat on the opposite side of him, his gums tickled with anger. He waited for an opportunity to get back at her. An idea came to mind and he said to Marian faintly, "I heard that Ruby didn't come to eat because a library was donated to you, is it true?" His father always loved Ruby, and Marian was arrogant enough to make Ruby cry on the first day of her arrival. He didn't believe his father would leave it alone. Marian raised her head and looked at Charlie faintly. "I heard that you were the worst student in your school, but you didn't get held back because you donated a thousand computers, is that true?" Charlie didn't expect that Marian knew he was the worst student in his school. Didn't Sheryl hide this from the public? As he heard Marian's words Christian frowned, his voice sounded from the other end of the table. "Charlie, what is she talking about? When did you fail your exams?" In a few words, Charlie's face suddenly turned pale. The one person he feared the most was his own father. Although he was a very busy man, he still took the time to teach his son on the weekends. Charlie didn't want to admit it, but didn't know how to dodge his father's question. He could only imagine the rage his father would show if he knew his efforts in teaching him were wasted. Trouble was slowly building up, but Sheryl quickly intervened. "The food is getting cold, just talk about it later!" After speaking, Sheryl glanced at Marian, she was giving her a warning through her eyes. Marian was still indifferent in the face of Sheryl's dissatisfaction, but she was right, the food was getting cold. She picked up her chopsticks and started eating. Christian didn't ask about it for now and he too started eating. The family ate quietly. After the meal was over, Christian didn't stand up, nor did anyone else in the Su family. It was a rule of the Su family, no one else stood up until the master of the stood up. Marian didn't care about this rule, she put down her chopsticks and neatly organized her dishes and she stood up to leave. Charlie was about to reprimand her as he saw her standing up. Sheryl looked over and closed his mouth. She didn't want to help Marian, rather it was the opposite. Her husband was now the master of the Su family. As the master, he would never allow his authority to be challenged. This was the perfect opportunity to get her in trouble. Sure enough, the moment Marian stood up, Christian's face had already sunk. Charlie also understood his mother's intentions. He understood just enough to obey his mother's wishes. Christian was just about to lose his temper, but he remembered that Marian was sent to the countryside at a young age, she probably didn't know the rules of the house. He suppressed his anger for now. He raised his head and stopped Marian calmly, "Wait a minute, Marian." Marian turned her head, her gaze slowly fell on Christian's body. Christian pointed to Marian's seat and he said to her, "Sit down, I have something to tell you." Marian didn't sit down immediately, instead she said faintly, "We just had a meal, can't we talk about this later?" She never planned to sit down. Christian didn't like disobedient children. Sheryl and Charlie were very surprised that Christian hadn't attacked Marian yet. This wasn't his way of doing things at all. Charlie just wanted to get ahead, but he was stopped by Sheryl. Sheryl had been his wife for many years now. She knew her husband would be able to handle this. Sure enough, Christian stated his purpose in the next few seconds. "Marian, although your grandfather gave you the property of the Su family, you are still young and you have to complete your studies. Here, this is an authorization agreement, once you sign this I will help you manage the funds until you are ready to manage it on your own." After speaking, a servant on the side handed over a document to Marian. Sheryl and Charlie finally understood Christian's purpose. Once Marian signed the agreement, they would have a shared ownership of the inheritance. Once she signed it would only take a few loopholes in the law to fully own Charles' inheritance. Charlie squinted and looked at Marian with a smile. He still couldn't understand, but he knew whatever his father was doing was for the best.
