Ruby was waiting for Christian to ask. She had always been disappointed in her father's lenience toward Marian. Sheryl told her it was a slow and methodical form of torture, but she was still dissatisfied. She found something wrong with Marian and she was fully intent on making her own father punish her. She looked over and squinted at Marian was standing silently on the side. "Don't you know? She sneaked out last night. I thought country girls would be more disciplined, I totally didn't expect it. Our family is constantly being watched, if reporters took a picture of any of us they could write anything they want, but she came out at such a late time, just imagine the lies they could cook up." Marian didn't react at all. She was standing perfectly still with her hands in her pockets. Once again she was just a bystander watching, even if she was the one under scrutiny.
