Chapter 13

She saw an old man with white hair, he was surrounded by a crowd as he walked in from the garden. When the people around saw him, their eyes brightened up as if they had seen the face of God. Even Ruby, who was sitting beside her, reacted excitedly. "Dad, look, Mr. David is here!" Christian naturally noticed. He glanced back and said to the entire family, "Brighten up and follow me to meet Mr. David. Behave yourselves and don't be too arrogant." Ruby was full of pride, with smiles all over her arrogant face. "Don't worry, Dad. Charlie and I have been by your side since childhood. Besides, I have attended this kind of party many times before, there's no way I can make a mistake. If anything they should pay attention to me for a lesson or two." Everyone present knew that Ruby's words were deliberate, and she was talking about Marian deliberately. But no one called her out on this, Ruby was right in their eyes. Marian was a girl who had just returned from the countryside, she didn't understand the proper etiquette and she would most likely cause trouble for the family. Ruby and Charlie grew up within the Su family, an elite, high-class family. Although they were arrogant and pretentious most of the time, they still learned how to be dignified and elegant. They have learned the proper etiquette since childhood, Ruby thought she was superior to Marian because of this. Christian also realized the meaning of Ruby's words. Marian had already showed her face, she has served her purpose. He glanced down and said quietly, his expression was cold as if nothing could affect Marian anyway. "Marian, you don't know how to properly talk to people. Let me handle this with your brother and sister, just stay here and behave yourself." Marian remained indifferent, as if she was just an outsider. Sheryl felt uncomfortable as she saw her daughter's emotionless expression. She clasped her husband's hand and said, "Let's go, Mr. David is waiting!" Christian nodded silently, and he walked alongside her, Charlie followed them as well. Ruby followed as well, but before she left, she raised her eyebrows at Marian triumphantly and smiled provokingly. "Do you see that, Marian? This is your position in this family and you will never be a part of it. This is your destiny, even if you are reborn into the Su family, this is the only thing you'll be getting. We're different from each other, do you understand that?" Marian raised her head slowly, her cool eyes fell on Ruby's body like falling feathers, her lips were slightly opened, and she faintly said two words, "Not really." Ruby originally thought that she would see an angry look on her face, but Marian obviously wasn't going to fold that easily. If she had said that to her when they were both young she would've lashed out and fought her. But it felt like she was hitting herself, it had no effect at all. Marian's eyes looked heartless. They could give anyone who looked into them an unpleasant feeling at the back of their mind. Ruby felt her legs giving out and she couldn't understand what was going on. Ruby pretended to be calm, but she didn't dare look at Marian again. "Just stay there, I don't have time to chat with you. I have to go to meet Mr. David with Dad!" After speaking, Ruby tucked her tail and ran away. As she saw Ruby slowly disappear into the crowd she retracted her own gaze. She felt that Ruby was right, if they were to be reborn in the same family again, they would be vastly different. As she thought about it more, Marian smiled faintly, she took a sip of the scented tea that was on the table. She frowned when she swallowed it. Sheryl said that the tea was made from vacuum roses imported from France. She thought it tasted worse than the tea leaves she planted in her back garden in the countryside. Marian put the cup down in disgust, but a strong force suddenly came from beside her. Someone had been pushed into her unintentionally. The table was shaken and she had dropped the teacup that was in her hand. The cup shattered and tea spilled onto a woman's clothes. An exclamation could be heard throughout the entire banquet hall, "Good God, my dress!"
