Kiesha's eyelids fluttered open, battling the heavy fog clouding her mind. As consciousness seeped back in, a wave of disorientation crashed over her. Gone was the familiar warmth of the park, the joyous shrieks of children playing, and the comforting scent of her mother's sunscreen. Instead, she found herself surrounded by the confines of a moving car, the rhythmic thrumming of the engine a constant hum against her ear.
A muffled conversation drifted from the front seat, drawing her attention. She craned her neck, her movements slow and deliberate, like an old machine creaking back to life. Her gaze landed on a woman in the passenger seat, her profile illuminated by the soft glow of the dashboard lights. A jolt of recognition shot through Kiesha—it was the woman from the park! But where was her family? Where was she?
Mustering all her strength, Kiesha rasped out a question, her voice hoarse and barely a whisper, "Where am I?"
