His heart was not settled. As the elevator approached his floor, his heart raced more. He tried to ask himself why, but his subconscious kept giving him suspicious hints. He had trusted his assistant over the years. Although he had given thanks to the company, his greatest asset was not burned to ashes; he feared that the burning might not be physical but internal.
As he exited the elevator, he hated that he started seeing and perceiving things differently.
"Why would the floor smell like this?"
