Elodie and Ari waited for the police to show up.
They had to load the thugs into three separate vehicles.
A police officer took Elodie’s statement on the spot and promised to get in touch with more questions.
Standard operating procedure dictated that she be taken to the station as well, but the Fontaine name still held plenty of sway in the city.
After the police left, she turned to Ari. ‘What are you doing here?’
‘I came out for my nightly jog and heard the noise. Thought I could help.’
Elodie nodded. ‘Thanks. You did help.’ She glanced around. ‘I guess I’ll head home now.’
‘I’ll walk with you.’ Ari handed her a tissue. ‘There’s blood on your hands.’
‘Thanks.’ She took it.
‘There’s something I should tell you, especially in light of tonight’s event.’
