As they stepped out of the police station, the sunlight illuminated Alston's face, making it even more dazzling.
Although Gladys was injured, she felt fulfilled seeing her father.
As soon as she got close, Alston asked her with a cold face, "Where do you live, I'll take you back!"
Approaching him, Gladys smiled sweetly at Alston, unaware of his cold demeanor. "I don't know where I live. Mommy never brought me here before, so I don't know how to get back."
Alston furrowed his brow and lifted his chin. "Get in the car," he said, his tone brisk.
With Caleb's assistance, Gladys got into the backseat as Alston briskly made his way to the driver's seat without a glance backward.
Gladys courteously thanked Caleb, "Thank you, Uncle."
Caleb, now seated in the front, glanced back at Gladys, feeling an odd connection with her. Alston's claim that Gladys wasn't his daughter seemed less convincing in light of her undeniable charm.
As the car started moving, Gladys leaned forward, her rosy face peek
