The sound of Cecilia's breathing seemed to linger in Alston's ears, and unconsciously he pursed his lips.
He shifted slightly, but still there was no movement from Cecilia.
Alston became restless, unable to sleep, torn between wanting to get out of bed and fearing Cecilia might interpret it as an opportunity for her.
A sense of oppression welled up within him. This was his home, yet just because Cecilia was here, did he have to feel so hesitant even to get a glass of water at night?
Alston thought to himself, sitting up in bed.
He reached out to switch on the bedside lamp, his feet resting on the neatly arranged blanket Cecilia had spread. Warm light flooded the room.
Almost casually, he tilted his head and his gaze settled on Cecilia's face.
The dim light sculpted her sleeping visage even softer, devoid of the usual air of superiority she carried at the office, leaving only clarity and purity.
Alston's breath caught. Cecilia had just fallen asleep without doing anything?!
