Chapter 167: The Ambush
The morning had started off much like any other. Jason and I shared our usual breakfast, savoring a few moments of peace before the chaos of the day began. The sun was streaming through the kitchen window, casting a warm glow over the room. We talked about our plans for the day, the routine comforting in its familiarity.
"I'll be back early today," Jason said, kissing my forehead. "Got a few things to wrap up at the office, then I'll swing by the grocery store. Anything specific we need?"
"Just the usual," I replied, smiling. "And maybe some of those pastries you like. You deserve a treat." He laughed, a sound that always made my heart light. "I'll see what I can do."
