Chapter 21: The Suspicious Pack
[Donald’s POV]
The morning light filtered through the dense canopy as I reluctantly parted ways with Margaret. Every step away from her felt like a test of restraint. My wolf bristled at the distance, but there were pressing matters to attend to. I made my way to Armstrong’s quarters, my mind preoccupied with the growing tensions within the territory.
When I entered, Armstrong looked even more haggard than he had the night before. His exhaustion was evident in the dark circles under his eyes and the slump of his shoulders. It was clear he had been working tirelessly, likely without sleep. Despite my personal grievances with him, I respected his dedication to his pack. He was a leader who prioritized his people’s safety, and that was something I could not overlook.
“I’ve redesigned the patrol routes in the forest,” Armstrong began without preamble. His voice was rough, laced with fatigue. “We’ve doubled the manpower and shifts, but so far, we haven’t found anyone suspicious.”
