Chapter 41
Serena's POV.
Just then, I saw Richard and some warriors approaching. I let out a sigh of relief, pointing them in the direction of Ross. The warriors carefully lifted him and carried him to a small hut.
The pack's doctor and another healer were already there, and they asked us to step outside. I nodded, feeling numb and helpless. Richard put a hand on my shoulder, but I shook him off, unable to bear his touch.
Richard's whisper was soft, reassuring. "He'll be fine."
But I was beyond consolation.
"I killed him," I sobbed, breaking down completely. Richard wrapped his arms around me, holding me close.
"You didn't kill him," he said firmly, but I shook my head, overcome with guilt.
"I did," I cried, my voice cracking. "I killed him emotionally. If only I hadn't sent him to the battlefield, he'd still be healthy. If only I hadn't pushed him away, despite him being my mate... he wouldn't be wishing death on himself."
Richard cupped my face, his eyes filled with compassion
