Chapter 75
SUZIE’S POV
I lay in bed, my eyes glued to the dark brown ceiling as Thoughts encroached my mind. The sound of chirping crickets filled the silent room. There was one thing I could not wrap around my head, and that was the way this town worked.
After I had talked to the old woman, I decided not to give up and search for someone else willing to talk, but there was no one else in sight. I took a tour around the town and the further I went, the worse it got. Each house was run down, some of them had incomplete roofs, or walls.
And there was not a single person in sight.
I exhaled sharply, turning to my side. I was restless and could not catch a wink of sleep. I had not made any progress with my mission and I did not want to disappoint Elliot. But what could I do? All my efforts to gather information had failed drastically.
