Chapter 82
Gabriella walked out of the courthouse and looked up at the sky when it started drizzling. She was wary of her surroundings, hoping to catch a glimpse of Izaak's shadow.
Governor West waited for Gabriella outside his car in front of the courthouse. He walked toward his daughter, holding an umbrella above his head, and shielded her from the rain.
She was dressed in a thin shirt that made her appear helpless and weak. He drew her into a loving embrace. "Everything is fine now. "It's all over."
Even as Gabriella embraced her father, she kept looking around for that familiar shadow to appear and warm her freezing heart.
The governor saw through his daughter’s thoughts. “Izaak isn’t coming," he gently told her. "You know it’s his mother’s funeral today.”
Gabriella nodded. She understood, but she couldn’t stop herself from hoping. She missed him, and she wanted to see him.
But that would be too much, right? How could she even dream of seeing him? Izaak would probably see her as his mom’s mur
