Chapter 7 5: B
She scrunched up her face and rubbed her eyes from beneath her glasses, that s what she mostly did when she was getting a hold of her words. "But Alhaji..."
"I don t want to hear any buts, Fareeda. That's my decision and it s final, get out of my sight." The walls echoed with the tone of his finality.
"Walk like the queen you are, Mrs Gateman," Ummah said tautly and Fareeda was certain if not because of Alhaji s presence, she would have thrown this house upside down. But even after that, she wouldn t let this slide.
"Ummah, I thought I told you that I want the extra key of my key that you have? And the last time I could remember, Alhaji made it clear to both of us, we aren t allowed to meddle in each other s affairs, am I right? I'll send Nana to get the key for me, and you shouldn t make another one, please." She flashed her a tight-lipped smile and walked off to her room, calling Nana on her way that her voice resonated through the long terrace.
She was already in her room when Nana walked in with a goofy grin, "You called me, Ya Fareeda."
She looked up and glared at her, "Yes, that s because I want to kill you, Nana. Before that, go to Ummah and tell her I've sent you to collect the key for me, make sure you ask her in front of Alhaji and don t come back to me without it, okay?" She quickly nodded her head and walked out of the room.
She was about to call Adam that had left her a missed call when the door got banged and a furious Asma u walked into the room. "I've never imagined you could stoop so low, Fareeda!"
Fareeda threw her head back and laughed loudly before she walked to where Asma u stood, fuming in rage. "What s my name again? Haven t I warned you not to ever call me Fareeda again, Asma u? Do you want to go out of this room with a dislocated bone or perhaps you have a death wish?" She stubbornly glared at her and that made Fareeda chuckled.
"I'll take it easy on you today, teenage love is always this way. How about this, Asma u?" She asked with a smile and slumped down on the bed. "Come, sit down and let s talk like the sisters we are," Asma u grunted before she sat down as Fareeda pulled her to the bed.
"You like Mujaheed, right?" She asked, and Asma u rolled her eyes before she nodded her head.
"How about this? You ll tell Ummah that you like him so she can stop Alhaji from getting me married to him? You see, I'm the heiress of the Sardauna empire, I can't get married to a gateman, Asma u. But if you can do it, I'll always support you as the big sister I am."
"Stop this nonsense, Ya Fareeda!" She yelled and stood up, glaring at her.
"You ll be pardoned because I know how love works. But before I lose my temper, get out of my room, Asma u, whenever you re ready to talk like a real human, come back to me." She pointed at the door for her, and from the way her eyes burnt, Asma u knew better than to say or do something else. After Fareeda closed the door behind her, she smiled. She would surely use Asma u to get rid of Mujaheed for good.
She was casually walking around the house, musing to herself while she smiled softly at the thought of getting new glasses today. It had been years since something else excited her as her glasses did, and she was certain she would be the same for the rest of her life. She stopped by at the parking lot and remembered she had left her car in the club they had last visited with Adam, the key was with her. Figuring she had to go and take it, she brought her phone out and dialed Adam s number without a second thought.
"What is it now?" He said in an irritated tone and she softly smiled. No matter what this man did or say to her, she would always love him, that would be as certain as the sky unveiling itself from the darkness at dawn.
"I want to ask you about my car, is it still there?" She asked while she moved past the parking lot. Knowing it would be a lot of trouble if she was to go back and take another key, Ummah would make sure she made her regret ever doing that, and right now she wasn t in the mood to fight back whatever it was that would come her way. She would rather take a taxi.
"Where else would it be? I m in the middle of something now, we ll talk later." He said and ended the call. She stared at the phone for a few minutes and sighed. She needed to go and make things right between her and Adam, there was no way her life would be sweet former if he was this furious at her. And it was all thanks to Mujaheed, he kept adding more fuel to the burning fire.
There was quite a distance between the main building to the gate, but she didn t mind at all. As she walked silently, her mind slowly began to think, she had tons of things to talk after all. Asma u might not look like it, but she would surely come back to her and ask for her help. She could see it in her eyes that she loved Mujaheed, Nana had always gossiped to her about it but she had never believed her but now. Maybe that would be her way, and if it didn t work, she would have to find another way for it.
She had to be in the hospital to collect the glasses Dr. Aisha had sent before the man left work. Before she walked out of the door, "Fareeda," Mujaheed called her name as he walked out of his chamber. There were times when she wished they didn t have this full apartment given to someone like him as a mere gateman, and seeing him walked out of it now as he confidently walked up to her, she wished they only had a single and a very tight room for the gateman.
"What is it? Haven t I told you to get out of my affairs, Mujaheed?" She was even angry at herself that she turned and even as he walked toward her, she waited until he stood right in front of her.
"Where are you going? Alhaji said you shouldn t leave the house." She stared between the door and her face, the evening sun that had just cast it s dying rays on her face made it so hard for her not to cover her face with the back of her hand as she scrunched up her face.
"And what does that mean?" She hissed and tried walking away from him when he moved forward and stood in her way. Glaring at him from head to toe, Fareeda hissed once again and looked away from his sight, "I don t know why you re so full and sure of yourself, I m not with my car for you to say something about opening the gate for me. Just get out of my way, will you?"
He wrapped his hands around his chest and shook his head at her, "Where are you going? It s a simple question unless you answer it and I figure out it s okay for you to leave the house for it, you aren t going anywhere."
"What are you? My bodyguard?!" She said sharply and he shrugged off his shoulder to show her that he didn t mind being one. She knew he was just putting up an act, he was doing all this not because he wanted to do it but because he wanted to annoy her. She hissed and resisted the urge to strangle him until his dead body fell on the floor with a thud and walked past him. But what he did next was beyond her.
Knowing that talking to Fareeda wouldn t just be pointless but it will anger him, Mujaheed meticulously pulled her glass out of her eyes, and her white, round and milky orbs turned to the direction he was standing as though she could see him. "What are you doing?! Just what the hell do you think you re doing?!" She said in a high pitched voice as her hands began to feel for something around her. She could see his blurry vision but the moment she walked toward his way, he would move aside.
"You just have to tell me where you re going and I ll give you back your glass and grant you the access to leave." Carefully, he folded the glass in his hands and began to check if she had crashed somewhere else, but it was the same as it was in the hospital.
She placed her hands on akimbo and palmed her face, "This isn t a joke, no one has ever done this to me. It might seem funny to you but it s frustrating me, give it back to me." She outstretched her hand in the direction she could see him and he shook his head. Repeating his question for the umpteenth time.
"Where are you going?" His voice was sharp and filled with command, she wondered who the hell was this man.
Knowing so well that he wouldn t give it to her unless she told him what he wanted to hear, Fareeda grumbled before she palmed her face, "Dr. Aisha had sent the new pairs for me, I m going to get them. There, you ve heard it. Now, give it back." She hated herself for doing what he wanted and decided the day she would have to take her revenge on this man, it would be the sweetest day of her life. And it was none other than Alhaji that gave him all the privilege to do what he wanted to her.
"And? I m sure that s not the only place you re going to."
She softly screamed into her palms and turned to the direction she could see him, "That s it, and I need to be fast if not the man will leave the hospital in less than an hour now."
"Tell me the truth or forget about going out, I ll tell Alhaji to ask Dr. Aisha to tell the man to bring it home for you. You can even go back and rest now." Please where could she apply to get a licensed gun in Nigeria? She needed it to kill this man and after that, she needed to burn his body so there would be no evidence of him left.
"My car, I ll have to go and get it." She answered through gritted teeth and began to carefully walk to where she could see him standing, her hands flying in the air so she couldn t fall and if something stood in front of her, she could feel it.
