Chapter 32
After hearing Joey's words, Queenie finally understood.
Joey's sudden urge to find a job stemmed from Tyson's hurtful comment.
Tyson often scolded Joey for her spending habits, but he had never criticized her as a person. His complaint last night showed he thought Joey was out of touch with the world and not as good as other women.
"I know you care about Tyson, but you can't neglect Jacky because of him," Queenie sighed. "If you really want to work, why not leave Jacky with your mother-in-law?"
Joey shook her head at the mention of Lily. "She'll just tell him, 'Mommy's working because she doesn't want you,' and I don't want him growing up with that kind of psychological burden."
Such words would be deeply hurtful to both Jacky and Joey.
Queenie thought for a moment and then said, "Why don't you let Jacky stay with me? I can take care of him."
"No, your shop keeps you busy enough. Jacky would just be an added burden," Joey declined, not wanting to add to her sister's workload.
