Chapter 11

Joshua's sharp ears caught the sounds from Queenie's end. He immediately knew she was at the police station. Hence, he asked, "What happened?" He wondered if some thugs had harassed Queenie since she was alone outside at this hour. He remembered the recent news about an incident at a barbecue restaurant. Although he was an outsider, he sided with the lady as ladies were naturally more vulnerable. "It's nothing, I..." Queenie didn't want to tell Joshua about her embarrassing family feud. After all, they were practically strangers. "Send me your location." Joshua felt somewhat helpless. He thought he wouldn't have to face Harry's nagging after he got married. But it seemed like his problems had only multiplied. After hanging up, Joshua picked up his keys and headed out. Regardless, he had already married Queenie, so he had to take responsibility for her. Moreover, she wasn't the one who caused trouble this time. Listening to Joshua's orders, Queenie could only comply and send him her location. Standing nearby, Joanne watched her silently. After Queenie sent the location, Joanne clicked her tongue and asked probingly, "Queen, be honest, did you marry a domineering CEO?" During the altercation at Joey's house, Joanne had overheard some details while recording evidence. Now that things had calmed down, she finally had the chance to interrogate Queenie. "What? What are you talking about?" Queenie was confused. "What's a domineering CEO?" "Don't play dumb! His attitude screams 'CEO'." Joanne grabbed Queenie's phone. She could unlock it with her fingerprints. "Let me check his social media. I can tell… Wait." Joanne quickly opened Joshua's Instagram and was shocked to find his feed empty. He didn't even have a profile picture or a bio. "Who lives like this? He's so rigid!" Joanne frowned. "Queen, you know what? This is exactly how those CEOs in romance novels are portrayed!" Queenie knew Joanne well. Since their college days, she loved novels, anime, and dramas, always fantasizing about romantic scenarios. It was a pity she wasn't an author. "Joanne, if you're that free, maybe you should focus on finding a CEO to appease your family," Queenie said, taking back her phone. She then reminded Joanne, "Don't forget, your mom set you up for a blind date next Saturday." Joanne groaned at the mention of this. She had only graduated a year ago, and her family was already pressuring her to marry and have children. She couldn't stand such an old-fashioned mindset. "Since you brought it up, you're coming with me next Saturday. It's settled," Joanne declared with the same bossy attitude she attributed to Joshua. How could she call anyone else domineering with a straight face? Queenie could never say no to Joanne. Yet, just as she was about to protest, she saw Stacy coming out from another interrogation room. They were at the police station, so Stacy dared not act out. She worried that Queenie might press charges on her. With the police's help, the two sat in the mediation room to clear the air. "Never cause trouble at Joey's house again, and stop pushing me to get married." Queenie had no other demands. She just wanted Stacy to leave her and Joey alone. Stacy was now aware of Queenie's weak spot. Calming down, she said, "Fine, but you have to unblock me. I need to be able to reach you at all times." Queenie knew that if she disagreed, Stacy would continue to harass Joey and put her in a difficult position with her in-laws. With Joey and Jackson in mind, Queenie took a deep breath and reluctantly agreed to Stacy's request. Happy to see the matter resolved, the police said, "Alright, if you're both satisfied with the agreement, just sign here, and you can go." Neither Queenie nor Stacy wanted to spend the night at the police station, so they quickly signed the papers and left. As Queenie and Joanne were about to leave, Joshua arrived in his car. His handsome face, tall stature, and commanding presence made him the center of attention wherever he went. Joanne immediately turned starry-eyed. Excited, she gripped Queenie's hand and said, "Queen, look! There's a hot guy!" Only then did Queenie notice that Joshua had arrived. Before she could explain, Joshua already approached her. Joshua had keen eyes. He spotted Queenie's cute bun hairstyle from far away and figured she was safe. As he got closer, Queenie mumbled like a kid getting caught doing something wrong, "Mr. Newman..."
