Chapter 16 : Too Good at Goodbyes

I didn't know if it was because she was reminded of the ghosts she had tried to keep locked away behind a padlock or what. She didn't seem like herself since we arrived back home. And now, getting ready for Moxi's funeral seemed to tear her up even more. I had been to my share of funerals and weddings of people I knew and didn't know, but nothing prepared me for this one. Tightening my black tie, I watched her adjust her hair for the millionth time in a mirror. I had picked out a dress for her, and Nyx had picked it up. Tears made her chocolate eyes sparkle, and I really needed to know what war was going on in her mind. "What's wrong?" Pulling a dainty necklace from a Tiffany blue jewelry box, I unclasped it, brought it over her head, and placed it around her slender neck. I fastened it and ran my hands along her shoulders, and kissed her cheek.
