Chapter 14
Vicky turned to the door and saw an angry Tyler entering the ward. "I'm not doing anything to Miss Young," she answered calmly.
Sasha walked out from behind Tyler and pointed at her while screaming hysterically, "You're a wicked evil woman, Vicky Shaw! When Sheila was in trouble, you stopped Tyler from saving her and now you even dare to come to the hospital to bother her? Just how shameless can you be? Get out of here, now! No one welcomes you!"
Sheila Young furrowed her eyebrows and reprimanded her cousin, "Sasha, quit it."
She then looked at Tyler and kindly reasoned, "Tyler, you've misunderstood Ms. Shaw. She came to see how I was doing and to ask for my help."
Tyler's pupils darkened. "Help?"
"It's about Miss Lynn's case," she replied, not intending to hide their conversation. Then she looked apologetical as she addressed Vicky, "I'm sorry, Ms. Shaw. It's not that I don't want to help you, but my hands are tied." She sneaked a peek at Tyler and continued on resignedly, "No one can change Tyler's decision once he has made up his mind… Not even me."
Sheila had no intention of kicking Vicky when she was done but thought it better to spill the truth in front of Tyler.
Vicky knew there was nothing else she could say to change Tyler's decision since Sheila was her last resort. She simply nodded, and said, "Okay. Well, I won't keep you from resting, then."
When she walked past Tyler, she did not even look at him once. It was just like how he used to treat her—like she was thin air.
All of a sudden, a hand reached out to grab her by the wrist, which earned a frown from her. Looking up, she noticed that it was Tyler. "What do you want, Tyler?"
Tyler did not answer her question and instead said to Sheila, "I'm leaving."
Before Sheila could reply, Tyler left the ward while dragging Vicky by her wrist. Sasha was dumbfounded by what she was seeing.
"Tyler, where are you going? Tyler!"
Tyler ignored her as both he and Vicky vanished from sight.
Sasha was so angry that her face became twisted with rage. She gritted her teeth and snarled, "That cheap sl*t! Did you see how she seduced Tyler right in front of us!"
She looked at Sheila disappointedly. "Sheila, you shouldn't let Tyler leave so easily with that b*tch!"
"Those who want to leave will never stay. No matter what I do, he won't stay. Why should I embarrass myself?" replied Sheila lightly.
"That's the thing with you; you never fight for anything," exclaimed Sasha exasperatedly. "You made it possible for her to steal Tyler away from you! If you had taken more initiative three years ago, I bet your kid would already be this tall!"
Sheila said nothing as she gazed outside the window in a daze.
Sasha continued, "Compared to three years ago, Tyler treats you better now. Sheila, you need to fight for your happiness. Although Vicky was so shameless back then, she… Ultimately, she's the one who became Tyler's wife. The result is more important than the process."
Sheila's blinked as she mumbled, "The result is more important than the process, huh?"
—
At a quiet corner, Vicky was pressed onto the cold wall by Tyler. The chill emitting from his body was suffocating.
Tyler stared at Vicky with his icy eyes. Vicky had no clue what he was thinking. "Vicky, what did you tell Sheila?"
Vicky wanted to break free, but Tyler held her head still by gripping her chin so she would not be able to look away. As they made eye contact, Vicky's heart dropped, causing her to dissociate for a moment.
"Answer my question."
It was that low voice again.
His breath circled between her breaths, heavily boring into her. It felt strange yet quite familiar too, as if they used to be very intimate in the past.
Vicky looked up into his dark, stormy eyes. Suddenly, she giggled. "What are you afraid of?"
His eyes flickered. "What did you say?"
Vicky looked into his eyes. "I said, what are you afraid of?"
"Afraid?" It felt like a joke. He curled his thin lips into a mocking smile. "Tell me, then. What am I afraid of?"
To be honest, Vicky did not know why she said that either. Maybe it was her instinct, or maybe his aura was too strong that she blurted a random response.
"You arrived shortly at Sheila's ward after me, like you were so afraid I was going to bully your first love." Vicky smiled. "I'm the one begging for help now. Do you seriously think I'll bully the woman you hold so dearly when you have the upper hand? You're either blind or really stupid to not be able to understand a logic as simple as this."
She looked Tyler up and down with a doubtful expression on her face. "Is the qualification to be a CEO so low now?"
Not only did she imply Tyler was 'blind', but she also ridiculed him for having a low IQ and leaving him with no dignity.
His handsome face darkened and he questioned coldly, "Of all times, do you seriously think it's wise to provoke me now?"
"It's not like you're going to help me even if I make nice to you so I might as well say what's truly on my mind." Vicky looked indifferent. "You're going to accuse me of being the bad guy even if I didn't do anything wrong. Wouldn't it be better for me if I just be the bad guy for real? Saves me the trouble of wasting my time clearing my name."
Tyler got so angry that he ended up laughing. "So you're not even going to pretend to be a nice person now?"
"Nope." She smiled gently, her voice akin to a lazy cat's purr, tugging on his heartstrings. "Seems like you're h*llbent on making my life hard so don't even think for one second I won't do the same to you."
He looked at her cold, proud face, and all of a sudden, he found himself dazed.
Fragments of old memories appeared in his mind.
She realized he was staring at her with a look she never saw before, and it felt rather unnerving. He was looking at her, yet it felt like he was looking at another person.
Was that gentleness in his eyes?
Vicky tried to get a closer look but Tyler released her chin and put down his hand. He was back to his usual self as if what she saw was just an illusion.
"Not going to make my life easy, you say?" Tyler's voice sounded emotionally distant, yet alluring and crisp altogether. "And just how are you going to do that?"
Vicky was stunned. She only said that to make Tyler angry. Her only intention was to hurt him as much as he hurt her. It was the only way she could come up with to make him pay for refusing to help her.
Unexpectedly, Tyler's anger not only subsided but he actually calmed down. Nonetheless, his eyes remained deep and dark when he looked at her, just like the deep ocean that no sunlight could reach.
Vicky panicked and felt like she was the prey that voluntarily jumped into the hunter's trap. She looked away and opened her mouth to say something.
