Chapter 10

Vicky immediately walked up to Tyler. "Tyler." Tyler paused. "Why are you here?" "I came here to talk to you since you wouldn't pick up any of my calls," Vicky answered. "And why do you want to talk to me?" he asked. Vicky said, "It's regarding Cece—" "I'm not going to do anything about that," interjected Tyler indifferently, "and so should you." "But she's innocent." "There are many innocent people in this world. Do I need to help out every single one of them?" he replied rather harshly. Vicky was hurt by his indifference. "We're not divorced yet. I'm still your wife." Tyler gazed quizzically at Vicky, not understanding what she meant. "And so?" Vicky took a deep breath. "I'm willing to leave this marriage without taking a penny, if you're willing to help out Cece." "Leave this marriage without taking a penny, you say?" Tyler's lips twisted into a disdainful smile. "Vicky Shaw, did you seriously think I was going to let you take anything in the first place?" "According to the law, the assets of a married couple are to be divided equally in a divorce." Tyler chuckled. His eyes were cold as he said frostily , "We have a prenuptial agreement. It clearly states that in the event of a divorce, you'll be willing to leave this marriage without taking money or any other assets from the Hart family." "What did you say?!" Her eyes widened in shock. 'Was I really this stupid in the past? Why would I sign such an unfair agreement?' she thought. It never crossed Vicky's mind that she would lose the only bargaining chip she had to her past self. Tyler did not want to waste his breath talking to her anymore, so he started walking away from her. Staring at Tyler's handsome and tall frame, she said loudly, "If you help me, I'll fully cooperate with the divorce! If you don't, then…" At that moment, she decided to say the only thing that would ever drive Tyler up the wall. "Don't ever think about divorcing me. Your sweetheart will forever be a mistress!" This effectively stopped Tyler in his tracks as he looked back and said coldly, "Vicky Shaw, are you threatening me?" His cold eyes fell on her; they felt light and yet so oppressive at the same time that she did not dare to meet his gaze. Vicky instinctively shrunk back. For some reason, she knew she had to avoid his gaze at all costs, but she forced herself to stay calm for Cece's sake. Thus, she boldly stared back at him and said, "What if I am?" Tyler looked at her quietly with his deep, dark eyes. The stare lasted so long Vicky felt as if her soul was being sucked into those eyes. Vicky started to get anxious. She knew she already agreed to the divorce and that it was unethical for her to change her mind. However, apart from that, she no longer had any leverage to negotiate with him. Perhaps she did, before she lost her memory but at that moment, she could not even remember who's who, and the only person she knew who could help her was Tyler. With a stone-cold face, he said, "Well, we'll see about that." He then turned and left. A man like Tyler Hart would not have reached the height he was at today if he was so easily intimidated. Vicky was so stunned that she became rooted to the spot. After regaining her senses, she began chasing after him but Tyler had already driven off by the time she got outside. … For the next few days, Tyler did not return home nor did he answer any of Vicky's calls. She tried all sorts of methods and still failed to bail out Cece; she was not even allowed to see her. The Larson family was a powerful and influential family; no regular folk could ever save Cece after she hurt Hector. The sun was scorching hot when Vicky went to the hospital. This was the third day in a row she came to the hospital in the hopes of having a chance to talk with Missus Larson. However, she did not even get as far as entering into the ward for there were two tall bodyguards guarding outside. They barred her from entering, making it quite clear Missus Larson did not wish to see her. Vicky had no choice but to leave the hospital and make her way to Hart Corporation again. Cece was the only one who cared about her when she woke up from her coma. Thus, Vicky vowed that she would get Cece out of jail no matter what. As she arrived at Hart Corporation, the two women manning the front desk — having learned their lessons — did not dare to say anything after seeing Vicky. Vicky also did not plan on making their lives difficult, so she just sat on the sofa in the lobby and waited. After what seemed to be ages, someone strutted in on her high heels. Vicky lifted her head and saw a familiar face. At the same time, Sasha saw Vicky on the sofa too. "What's the deal with that woman?" she asked. Clearly, the two women manning the front desk knew Sasha. They still held a grudge against Vicky, but they did not dare to be overt about it. "Good day, Miss Young. This woman is here to see Mister Hart, but she doesn't have an appointment. According to the rules, we're not allowed to let her in." The other woman mumbled, "She claimed to be Missus Hart but she couldn't even get Mister Hart on the phone…" Sasha pretended to feel shocked. She smiled deviously as she sauntered to where Vicky was sitting. "Goodness me. Aren't you Ms. Shaw? Or should I say…" Lifting a hand to cover her mouth, she giggled and said, "Missus Hart? But if you're really Missus Hart, as you claim yourself to be, shouldn't you be upstairs instead of sitting here?" Vicky looked at Sasha's devilish expression and said nothing. This, however, merely fueled Sasha's arrogance. "Didn't I warn you to be smart and stop bothering Tyler? Seems like you're dumber than I thought. You only have yourself to blame for the humiliation you've brought on yourself. Tsk, tsk, tsk!" Sasha patted her own face lightly and remarked in an exaggerated manner, "Your face must be burning right now." Vicky stared at her coldly. "You're the one who did this to Cece, didn't you?" Sasha was so pleased with herself that if she had a tail, it would have been wagging non-stop. "Yeah, it was," she replied haughtily, "but so what? She's nothing but an insignificant assistant. Besides, Tyler wouldn't blame me even if it was you who were in jail instead." She giggled, having thought of something. "Have you forgotten the time when you were pushed into the pool?" Vicky's pupils became pinpoints as her eyes turned cold. Sasha sighed like she was in trouble. She turned around and asked the two women manning the front desk, "Oh no, I dropped by unexpectedly today, and didn't make an appointment in advance. Is it okay if I go up just like this to see Tyler?" One of the women smiled. "Based on your relationship with Mister Hart, you don't need an appointment at all. Please go up whenever you wish and don't let us keep you waiting." Sasha became cockier at this response. She looked at Vicky contemptuously and insinuated, "There'll always be shameless women who'll try their luck at seducing Tyler. Both of you better keep your eyes open, so you won't accidentally let these shameless, indecent women in."
