Chapter 14 It Just So Happened That She Lack Money

Jade did not know whether to cry or laugh. Zephaniah had been incredibly reluctant to marry her, and he had added a truckload of conditions when they were married to each other. But now, when she wanted to get divorced, he didn't want to. It really confused her. The next morning, Jade went to the bank to get the money. Two bags were given to her, and they were filled with two million and five hundred thousand dollars. The bags were a little heavy. She heaved them straight to the lawyer's office. “Mister Stewart, here is two million and five hundred thousand dollars. It should be enough. Please take care of my father's case.” Mister Stewart let out a clear sigh of relief after he checked the amount. “Yes, it should be enough. As long as you can cover the embezzled money, I will try my best to defend your father.” “Thank you.” Jade did not know what else to say. She could only thank the lawyer repeatedly. She was really thankful that her father was acquainted with a good lawyer who was willing to accept such a case. Otherwise, looking for a lawyer alone would have already caused her a lot of trouble. “Miss Redfern, Mister Whittle wants to see you in his office.” Right after Jade returned from the lawyer's office to her company, the CEO’s office called for her. She had to put down her work and hurried to Mister Whittle's office. It was only then that she learned that she was to handle a collaboration with another company. Her company had long since been working together on a project with Dragon’s Ascent, a major investment company in the field. They had agreed for a negotiation next Wednesday, but the representative of the negotiation was in the hospital due to eccyesis, so they decided to send Jade instead. “Me? Mister Whittle, you must be kidding! I just deal with figures. If you ask me to go to the negotiation, aren’t you just pushing me off the cliff? I’ve never done anything like this before.” Jade did not know whether she wanted to laugh or cry. Mister Whittle said with a smile, “It's alright. I'll send someone to accompany you. You just have to speak according to what the contract says. I have no other choice. If the company had a better orator, I wouldn’t be in such a troubling situation right now.” Before Jade could speak, Mister Whittle cast out the bait. “If you go, I'll ask the finance department to give you two million dollars as a show of gratitude for the trouble we caused you. You can get full reimbursement for your travel expenses as well.” ‘Well, aren’t you a vicious one to bring money to the table? ‘And I just so happened to lack money!’ “Mister Whittle, remember to ask someone to book my ticket.” Jade took over the contract from Mister Whittle. It was just a negotiation. She had been an interpreter and listened to people negotiate before. She would still be able to understand some business jargon. These two million dollars would be enough for her and her mother for three months. After returning to her office, Jade took a brief look at the contract. Out of professional habit, she also went to Google for more information on Dragon’s Ascent Investment Company. It was an investment company developed in Seagan City four years ago. Then, in less than two years, it managed to enter the international market. Right now, it had bought over the Concord Building. As of current, the investment company was worth millions. Jade could not help but click her tongue. If it managed to develop to this state in four years, the founder must either be someone amazing or the child of a really wealthy family! Jade scrolled down. She wanted to see just what sort of amazing person the founder was, but right then, her phone rang on the table. She casually swiped the screen to answer the call. “Easton, I was just looking for you. Let me treat you and Taylor to dinner later in the evening.” Easton smiled at the other end and said, “It seems that I called at the right time. Alright, I'll pick you up when you get off work?” “Half past five.” After she finished the call, Jade stared at her blank computer screen. She could not quite figure out what she had been doing, and she muttered, “What was I about to do? Ah, I’m getting old. My memory is getting worse!” Since she could not remember what she wanted to do, Jade decided that she would not think about it. She started to do other things. After Jade finished work, Easton came to pick her up, and they went to Red House for dinner. She saw Taylor playing with her mobile phone the whole time. It seemed that she did not speak to Easton very much. Jade was curious. “Easton, why is Taylor not talking?” Easton patted Taylor's head and smiled in anguish. “Taylor is autistic…”
