Lisa's face said it all—she'd never done any online shopping before. Since she'd been in surgery all day, I decided to grab the package for her. I looked at the recipient's info and made sure it was definitely for Lisa. "Is this another gift from your secret admirer?" I teased as I set the package on the table. Lisa looked confused but grabbed the utility knife from the table to open it. I couldn't help myself and leaned in to check out what was inside. She tore off the outer wrapping, opened the inner box, and we screamed at the top of our lungs. We kept screaming until people rushed in from outside and finally caught the snake that had slithered out and was zipping around the room. Both Lisa and I were white as a sheet. As soon as that box flew open, the snake shot out like it was launched from a cannon, grazing our faces. I didn't know about anyone else, but Lisa and I were terrified of anything that slithered.
