I turned and met his dark gaze. I suddenly began to feel guilty out of nowhere.
I looked away and continued walking. "No. I just don't want anyone to get the wrong idea," I replied.
"Okay." His one-word reply left me confused.
Despite my confusion, I remained silent. We were all adults after all. Boundaries and privacy were important.
Besides, he didn't seem like a chatty guy.
Silence fell between us yet again, causing the awkward tension to rise. I was, once again, the same person to break the silence and ask, "How quickly can you get these lights fixed?"
"It's hard to say," he replied.
I fell silent.
I thought of the agreement between Chris and me and said, "20 days. That's all I can give you."
He looked at me. I thought he would say something, but all he said was, "Alright."
So he was agreeing?
