"Didn't you actually see Brandon's cremation? Maybe it's just a coincidence." Conrad hung up the phone, keeping his eyes on me while I was on the Ferris wheel.
I stayed up there until the crowd gradually thinned out and the lights dimmed, settling into the quiet of the night. Only then did I finally come down.
Conrad was still there, ready to help me. His gaze lingered on my face like he was trying to figure out my feelings. I'd already gotten all my feelings out up there, and now I was back to feeling like myself.
"It's getting late. Let's head out," he said.
I followed him out of the amusement park and asked, "Conrad, tell me about Kara."
"She's in Lindron. You'll need to reach out to her for more details." Conrad was always cautious. He pulled out his phone and shot me a message. "I just sent you her new number and address."
"Got it. Thanks, Conrad!" I turned to leave.
"Maddie." His voice stopped me, and I glanced back. His eyes were dull. "Make sure to get some rest."
