I visited Ellie at the kindergarten where she taught, bringing her university acceptance letter. When I arrived, she was happily playing with the kids.

"Mae, I was just about to look for you this weekend if you hadn't visited me," Ellie said, hurrying over after settling down the little ones, sweat glistening on her forehead and the tip of her nose.

I handed her a tissue. "You've been running around a lot. Are you holding up okay?"
"No worries. I'm feeling great," she said, placing a hand on her chest. "This heart feels just like mine. It takes such good care of me."
Her mention of the heart brought back memories of Emma and Charles, especially that confusing feeling Charles had for Ellie that he kept hidden away.
